Laurel Caverns Merit Badge Trip 2009  by Brandon G.

On Saturday we worked on our climbing merit badge. It was pretty neat because we climbed and repelled in the caverns. Later after we got our merit badges we got to play putt putt play golf inside the cave called Kavernputt.

During spring break of 2009 a group of us went to Laurel Caverns in Pennsylvania to earn the Climbing, Forestry and Geology merit badges. There were nine scouts and four adults. The scouts who participated were Ryan B., Tommy B., Billy B., Gavin S., Angelo M., Brian B. , Will J., Joey H. and I. The adults were Mr. And Mrs. Bowman, Mr. Braughler and my mom. It was a six hour drive so we got to stay in a lodge which sure beats a tent.

On Sunday we worked on our Forestry and Geology merit badges. We all got to go into parts of the cave that are not part of the normal tour. It was pretty neat.

We all had a great time and would recommend it for a long weekend trip. They also have a boy scout caving trip but we did not have enough time to do it but it looked fun.

Here is the campsite called Pike. We like this site because it is right on the lake and we can fish a lot.

Pool Party Troop Meeting – July 2009  by Brandon G.

After coming back from a long hard week at Summer Camp the boys relaxed by having a Troop meeting at a local pool. It was a chance for them to let loose and have some fun. Below the scoutmaster is laying down the pool rules and making a few troop announcements.

Canopy Tour in West Virginia during the Whitewater Campout  by Scott H.

On Fathers day weekend, we joined Troop 7 on the Whitewater Campout in West Virginia. On Saturday, we rafted Class 5 rapids on the New River. In my raft, it was my brother Andy, Jacob R., Brian B. and his dad and some parents and scouts from Troop 7. On Sunday morning, Brian and his dad, Andy, my mom and I did a Canopy Tour. The Canopy Tour is a fancy name for zip lining. We wore harnesses that hooked on to the zip line. There were 7 zip lines that were hooked to the trees. The longest was Number 6 which was 300 feet long, and we went 35 miles per hour. The highest was 70 feet off the ground. Number 1 was the hardest because I had never done this before and it was kind of scary jumping off the platform. There was one where we had to zip line down to a tree platform where we unhooked and hooked onto another zip line. The tour took about two hours and it was on another part of the Ace Adventure resort that we camped on. I would recommend this place to anyone taking a vacation and hope we go back again next year. It would be fun to have more scouts from Troop 50 go on this trip. Below is a picture of Andy, my mom, and I wearing our brain buckets which are designed to hold our brains in case if we land on our heads. The second picture is my mom on the zip line.

Troop 50 White Water Rafting Campout  by Jacob R.

On June 20th, 2009 troop 50 joined troop 7 on a campout to West Virginia. Where Andy, Scott, Mr. H, Brian, Mr. B, David, Mr. A, Devon, me, and some kids from troop 7 went camping and white water rafting. Brian, Scott, Mr. B, and I were in the same raft. On the trip we went through class 1-5 rapids on the new river. We rode the million dollar wave, we surfed, and when the guide said it was okay Brian and I jumped out of the raft. We floated through a class 1 rapid in the water. Most of us jumped off of Mountain Dew Rock. This rock is where the guide said they did a commercial for Mountain Dew, normally the drop would be about 20 feet but because the water level was so high it was only 4 feet. I would recommend this to any scout that is looking for a challenge and lots of fun. It was Brian, Scott, and me's first time and we all had lots of fun.
